My teaching philosophy

When I teach my knitting classes, I feel that besides covering intended material I’m also opening doors to a life full of creativity and joy. With over 30 years of teaching college math and similtaneously nearly 20 years of designing professionally and teaching knitting, I’ve learned the value of patience, clarity, and creating a space for students to get genuinely excited about learning something new.

I love sharing the techniques I’ve explored over the years, especially slip-stitch knitting, which has become the heart of my work. My classes are built around texture, thoughtful use of color, and elegant design—always with a focus on helping each student feel confident and inspired.

Before I started designing full time, I was teaching college math for many years. I have a unique approach to teaching where I try to become a student to see how to break down the information I deliver. Every person is different and my experience teaching math helps me to be patient and explain material from different angles. It works for most students and I am happy. I believe learning new techniques should feel exciting, not intimidating. Most of all, I love connecting with other knitters.

I have more than 40 classes on my list and I would be happy to provide this list upon request.
