My teaching philosophy

When I teach, I’m not just showing techniques—I’m opening doors to a life full of creativity and joy. With over 30 years of teaching college math and nearly 20 years of teaching knitting, I’ve learned the value of patience, clarity, and creating space for students to get genuinely excited about learning something new.

I love sharing the techniques I’ve explored over the years, especially slip-stitch knitting, which has become the heart of my work. My classes are built around texture, thoughtful use of color, and elegant design—always with a focus on helping each student feel confident and inspired.

Knitters

Hi! I’m Faina, an independent knitwear designer, and I create knitting patterns that reflect my love for texture, shape, and color. Designing knitwear is where my creativity meets my curiosity—every stitch is a small decision, every pattern a story in motion.

Before I started designing full time, I was teaching college math for many years. That experience deeply shaped how I approach pattern writing. Teaching is at the heart of what I do. I believe learning new techniques should feel exciting, not intimidating. I design with curiosity and care, and I write patterns that are clear, supportive, and friendly—because I want you to feel confident and inspired. Most of all, I love connecting with other knitters. It’s such a joy to see how each person brings their own creativity to a design. I want my patterns to be a space where you can learn, experiment, and enjoy the process every step of the way. My patterns are more than instructions—they’re invitations to play, learn, and create something that’s truly yours. If you’re curious, creative, and ready to grow your skills, I’m here to cheer you on and help make the process joyful from the very first stitch.
