My teaching philosophy
When I teach my knitting classes, I feel that besides covering intended material I’m also opening doors to a life full of creativity and joy. With over 30 years of teaching college math and nearly 20 years of designing professionally and teaching knitting, I’ve learned the value of patience, clarity, and creating a space for students to get genuinely excited about learning something new.
I love sharing the techniques I’ve explored over the years, especially slip-stitch knitting, which has become the heart of my work. My classes are built around texture, thoughtful use of color, and elegant design—always with a focus on helping each student feel confident and inspired.

Looking for an instructor for your shop or event?
Hi! I’m Faina, an independent knitwear designer and a professional teacher. Many of my designs are created for the purpose of teaching a certain knitting or finishing technique. I love to deep dive into details and suggest tips and methods that help my students in making garments and accessories they will love making and wear.
Before I started designing full time, I was teaching college math for many years. That experience deeply shaped how I approach pattern writing. Teaching is at the heart of what I do. I believe learning new techniques should feel exciting, not intimidating. Most of all, I love connecting with other knitters. Coming from a career in academia, I love to share my diverse expertise through teaching at Vogue Knitting Live, Rowan Connect, and other major and small events around the country and abroad as well as at local yarn shops.
I have more than 40 classes on my list and I would be happy to provide this list upon request.
